This Houston ISD school embraced open spaces and recycled materials when constructing the addition to this Kindergarten through 8th Grade school. The approximately 24,00 square foot addition spans 3 stories, with a learning commons on the first floor and floor to ceiling windows overlooking SPARK park and the adjacent neighborhood. Woodrow Wilson Montessori achieved LEED Certified status, in part because of its focus on maximizing open space. The new addition included twice as much dedicated open space on the school campus as the new building’s footprint. Finally, the new addition also focused on using recycled material throughout the building and succeeded in replacing 31.41 percent of construction and design materials with recycled ones.
